Home So Fresh & So Clean, Clean...
Thankfully, I caught on in my last two years of high school and cleaned as soon as I got home on Fridays so I could sleep in or hang with friends on Saturday. Now that I've been living on my own for the past six years, I have my own cleaning schedule. However, until recently, I (just like my mom) saved home cleaning for just one day out of the week, which left inside getting woozy off of bleach fumes all day. Not fun.
Of course those of ya'll who know my unhealthy love for Pinterest wouldn't be surprised that I headed over there for some inspiration. And thus, a cleaning system was born! Although I end up cleaning six days out of the week, it is way better than trying to get everything done in one day and feeling overwhelmed. Instead, I feel focused, organized, and free to tackle the other stuff on the day's agenda.
There are so many ways to set up a home cleaning routine, so definitely go to Pinteret and find one that suits you. Here's mine, adapted from here:
Monday: bedroom. I launder and change the sheets, pick up clothes from the floor (I am the absolute WORST at putting my clothes away. Usually it's the husband, but in this case it's me. I'm not proud), dust the furniture, and vacuum. If I have extra time, I try to tackle my closet.
Tuesday: bathroom. I launder and change the towels and washcloths, and clean the sink, toilet, tub, and floor.
Wednesday: kitchen. My favorite room to clean because this room usually stays clean daily because I can't stand dirty counters and stove tops (I'm borderline OCD about it) and I try to knock out the dishes every morning and evening. But on these days, I wipe down the appliances, throw away old or bad food, and mop.
Thursday: living, dining, and office area. These rooms are also super easy to clean because all I basically have to do is vacuum and dust the furniture. Oh, and sweep and mop the foyer.
Friday: fundamentals. Basically, I just do laundry. I also use this as a "Grace Day" for anything I didn't get to clean during the week.
Saturday: swing day. On this day, I either deep clean the fridge and the inside of the oven, wash the bed comforter, clean the baseboard and walls, or clean the rugs, shower curtains, and pillows. These are the things I do just once a month.
I've been doing this for a few weeks now and I must say that I love this system! My apartment pretty much stays clean and I don't spend all day cleaning! Can't beat that!
