When Conviction Gets a Hold of Ya
Happy Monday, Dear Sisters! I hope everyone has had a great weekend! I must say my weekend was pretty awesome as I got to be around some of my favorite people, especially my brother and sister, who came home from school to celebrate my mom's (4/8) and baby brother's (4/6) birthdays.
Thursday night, my friend Cierra picked me up to spend the night with her and her roommates. I love these girls! We bonded over pizza while discussing some of the book of Revelation from the bible (not gonna lie...kinda creeped out by that book!) and false preachers until around midnight.
Friday, some members from the church attended the Atlanta Hawks vs the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball game. We had so much fun laughing, eating, dancing, and cheering with each other. To be honest, I hardly watched the game (I'm more into football), as I spent most of the time walking around debating whether or not I really wanted to pay $9 for chicken tenders and fries. I mean, really? NINE dollars?! Lol. At the end of the game, Lecrae, a Christian rapper, performed. Ahhh! It was so much fun! I loved that I can dance and get hype with my friends, all for the glory of God.
Saturday was spent with the boo, lol. I love just chillin' with Toby and enjoying each other's presence.
Yesterday was my youngest brother, Camron's 15th birthday. I cannot believe the guy is 15! I remember Mom and Dad bringing his tiny body home when I was 7 years old. I so remember changing his diapers! Now he is old enough to get a driver's permit. Geez! Speaking of driver's permit, Toby and I took Cam to the park to start teaching him how to drive...in MY car! I should get Big Sister of the Year Award. I'm just sayin'. ;)
Sunday was also of course, church day. Does anyone else seriously get excited about going to church?! While I love seeing my friends every Sunday, what I most get excited about is hearing what God has to say to me and the church. I spend time with God throughout the week and He speaks to me, but I just love hearing a physical voice confirm and convict certain things already placed in my heart.
My pastor, Cornelius Lindsey, preached on faith and fasting (topics I was so excited on). You can here the sermon here, and I must say that this lesson seriously touched my heart. It's so easy for us (well, at least me) to go to God with this huge laundry list of things that need to get done in our lives. We talk and talk...and talk about our lives, struggles, and desires, and then say "Whew! I feel better. Thanks, God, for listening! On to the rest of my day..." Very rarely do we just go to God in prayer asking Him what it is He wants us to do. To just listen to Him speak to us. To just sit in His holy presence. In this space is where faith comes from. True faith. The faith that Hillsong United sings about in Oceans. From this faith is where fasting and so much more can come from.
From now on, I want prayer time to be more of a dialogue rather than a monologue. I want to pray throughout the day, and not just at the appointed time that I spend with Jesus daily. I want to immediately answer that tugging at my heart when He prompts me that it's time to get into His presence. I want my prayers to have more substance and focus on Him and His glory, rather than my life. I just want to be so filled up with Him.
I so encourage ya'll to listen to the sermon. Soak up the words, cross reference the Word, and really check your heart in this area. Be honest with yourself in asking: How is my prayer time with God? How is my faith? How is my fasting?
Love you, sis!
