Bread of Life
Good morning, my beautiful sisters! I hope you all woke up filled with the joy of the Lord! As for me, I woke up feeling a little sick, but hey, I'm alive!
So, this morning I was reading today's devotional from Praying the Names of Jesus, and it really spoke to me. It made me think: Jesus is the bread of life, yet how many of us truly act like it? He gives us eternal bread and how many times do we place more importance on earthly bread?
I don't know about you, but I had to confess and repent for settling for the bread this life offers (food, success, money, pleasure) rather than Jesus' bread of eternal life. I had to ask God to renew my spiritual hunger and thirst for Him. I never want to get used to being starved of His presence, His Word, His guidance. What gain is there to have everything on this earth, just for it to pass away in the blink of an eye? Is it worth it compared to eternity?
I love what Ann Spangler said in this book:
"It is so easy to stuff ourselves with the world's cheap bread -- with money, success, comfort, and pleasure -- that we take the edge off our spiritual hunger. We fail to realize the dangers of living in an affluent, consumer-driven society in which we can be consumed by the things we desire. So many of us are like sponges, soaking up the world's good things with no space left for God."
Ouch. I don't know about you, but I want to be the sponge that soaks up so much of God's good things that I have no space left for the things of this world.
Love you, sis!
