The I Word + A Challenge!
Good morning, ya'll! I can't believe that it's already Monday; wasn't Friday just yesterday? Dear Weekend, won't you stay just a little while longer?
Many of ya'll know that Toby and I spent the weekend tucked away in a hotel unplugged. So grateful we did that and I am so grateful that it is tradition for us to do that about every three months. It seriously makes a difference in our marriage and refreshes our outlook on life and our goals. One thing we really focused on was, wait for it, the I-word. Yup, you guessed it, INTENTION (if you haven't caught on by now, that word is here to stay for the rest of 2015).
As I have been saying since January, being intentional in all areas of my life, especially as it relates to my walk with God and my relationship with my husband and family, is a huge deal to me. With the last couple of weeks being kind of rough to get through due to my lack of spending time with God, I know I have room to grow to spend time with Him. Sure, we are blessed to have grace and we are no longer under the Law, and I never want my quiet time with God to become something else on my to-do list, but I know that in order to have a thriving relationship with Christ, I have to put in work and effort like I do with the rest of my relationships. If I truly want to live an intentional life, it starts with being intentional with Him. He's the only one who can help me make it happen anyway. He's the one who can lead and guide me and help me not to take on too much or say "yes" to things I need to say "no" to. Only He can show me how to be an intentional wife, sister, friend, daughter, etc.
And so, I'm creating a challenge to keep myself accountable to spend time with God. I'm pretty sure you're not surprised that this girl loves challenges (bring. it. on.)! The challenge is to read a chapter of Proverbs a day for a month (I did it last summer and it was AMAZING). A habit takes about 21 days to form right? So 31 days is perfect to restart my habit of spending time with God daily. And I open and encourage this challenge to all who want to tag along!
Okay, so here are the deets:
The challenge will start on October 1 and run through the rest of the month. Each day we will read and study a chapter from Proverbs (there are 31 chapters), and then apply it to being intentional in our daily lives. To really hold myself accountable, I am going to share what my heart gets from each chapter each weekday, as it relates to being intentional, on Periscope at 7:30 a.m. before I leave for work (sweet Jesus, be some energy to this not-so-morning-girl!). Don't worry if you can't meet me on Periscope (@tifferbee) that early in the morning; the videos will be available for 24 hours. You totally don't have to have your quiet time and study in the morning; I just do so because I feel it helps me start my day on the right foot and in the right perspective. For those of ya'll who will be up with me, you can listen to me as you're getting dressed, driving to work, eating breakfast, or nursing that sweet baby of yours. That's all I got so far for this challenge, and there will be more details when we meet bright and early on next Thursday, October 1 at 7:30 a.m. EST. Who's with me?! *raises fist in the air*
Anyone else ready to get this challenge started with me? Oh, and if you think of a cute, catchy hashtag for this challenge, leave it below!
